Ignoring the Warning Signs

warning-signs “Do you know anything about how testosterone is supposed to affect you?”  That was a gentleman’s question without any lead in discussion.  I asked him why he wanted to know and he responded that he had a little bit of erectile dysfunction and had ordered some testosterone because he saw an ad in an airplane magazine that said it would help.  I explained that according to the medical literature, only about 20% of erectile dysfunction is caused from low testosterone.  The main cause of the problem is partial blockage of the artery, and is the same blockage process that causes blockage of the arteries in the heart.  This is important to know because if someone has the problem, it could be a warning sign that similar blockage is going on in the arteries of their heart.  If a man with such dysfunction has any pre-cardiac problems such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or elevated blood cholesterol, he most likely should inform his doctor of the problem and get his heart checked out for possible blockage of arteries.

Erectile dysfunction is similar to a heart attack.  Both can be prevented by protecting your arteries throughout your body by 1) getting to an ideal weight and staying there, 2) eating the right foods and avoiding the wrong foods, and 3) regularly exercising.

Telling the gentleman these statistics was enlightening, but what got his attention most, was that not only could it be prevented but a significant number of men who had the dysfunction had reversal of the problem by doing three things.  You guessed it: weight loss and exercise and eating the proper foods.  All three helped in cutting down the “bad” LDL cholesterol that was affecting the artery that caused the problem.  Read Prescription For Life and learn how to protect all the arteries in your body.
